Jetblue Mint

jetBlue fleet consist of A320s/21s with a unique layover for the transcon/ transatlantic

In my search of a good domestic seat I’ve put my eyes on jetBlue, Usually the LCC doesn’t come to mind when thing about comfort/ luxury, but in recent years, and their debut in the international market has put them in the spot with one -if not the best- domestic business class in the nation.

Everything started with a status match, I tried to hold status with the big three alliances (Star alliance, OneWorld and Skyteam) in order to make my life easier when comes to travel.

this time, the new york based carrier was launching a good status challenge with plenty of carriers, within them American Airlines, (I hold Executive Platinum which is their highest tier).

within a week I was greeted with mosaic status, a program I have little to non knowledge but that promised some good perks for those using jetBlue.

jetBlue doesn’t participate in any alliance, instead they opted to do so one-to-one partnership in order to bring more travelers in and to have more customers connecting overseas, within this carriers JAL made a big splash when the possibility to redeem trueblue points for JAL was announced.

and not contempt with Qatar airways or Etihad, they recently closed a partnership with United, redemptions are already live and you can earn and redeem points with the chicago based carrier as well, reciprocity with the status and some more perks.

Eager to try their domestic lieflats and having to be seat in a good stash of trueBlue points I was ready to book.

trueBlue points are really straightforward, each point equals to 0.014 cents, and rates are thigh to cash rates, for the dates I had the price from SFO to FLL was 64700, I was traveling with my mom and I wanted to get some tiles to keep my status for next year so paid her’s with points and mine with cash.

What’s interesting is that they manage to accommodate lieflat seats on a narrow body of the likes of the A321.

the cabin consist of 16 seats in a 2-2 or 1-1 configuration with the ‘throne’ seats offering the most privacy.

note that they introduced the new 1-1 configuration on the new planes for their international schedule and sometimes are deployed in the domestic market.

The hard product is great, the food, the seat, the pillow, the free wifi, simply perfect.

what jetBlue needs to work on is the ground experience IMO, there’s no lounge access (yet), so if you’re in the likes of not so Priority pass friendly airports like LAX you’re going to have a rough time.

If you’re flying with someone this seat is great, but not so great if you’re solo and end up with no isle access or with someone jumping over you to go to the bathroom, snoring or simply existing right next to you.

The cabin feels great, there’s plenty of room, in a collab with tuft & needle you get a comfy blanket and pillow a pair of noice cancelling headphones and even an amenity kit.

the eat controls are well placed and easy to reach to set the seat in the position you like.

The screen/ movies/ entertainment system is showing its age, its a small screen that feels low-res from the past decade, thankfully this had been replaced in the new configuration.

still, a good add for a domestic product that usually doesn’t even bother to have a screen (I see you AA).

Food is one of those points were jetBlue excels, delicious meticulously curated options that put the legacy carriers options to shame.

I had a vegetarian lasagna with a pumpkin or Colliflower soup (don’t quote me on that).

jetBlue is really changing their strategy for good and feels like going into the right direction, with competitive prices makes a no brainer to pickup the lie-flat any day over a legacy carrier, hopefully they deploy more of this planes for more routes.

My hope is that they even send this planes to latam where the lie-flats are basically inexistent, on the likes of Bogota, Quito, Mexico city and so on.

I already tried the new mint product in the new 1-1 configuration and is easily the best in the market, probably the only competitor would be AA with the introduction of their new A321XLR or the A321T, so if you have the opportunity don’t think it twice and Mint it!.
